  Events:   2010 - HiFi & Surround

During this weekend (20-21 November) a lot of people visited our room. Most of the visitors were very, very happy by the sound we had to offer.

The system:

CD Drive: Macbook
USB To SPDIF: SonicWeld Diverter
DAC: Red Wine Audio Isabellina (build-in the Isabella) - Antelope Audio Zodiac Plus
Preamp: Red Wine Audio Isabella with build-in Isabellina
Amplifiers: Red Wine Audio Signature 70.2 LFP-V Edition (mono amp's)
Loudspeakers: Liberty Audio model Freedom
Subwoofers: Velodyne model DD10
USB Cable: Locus Design Cynosure
Other Cables: Locus Design Vision & Locus Design Core
Others: Isolation devices from Black Diamond Racing

This time, our room were not that big - and unexpected we had some very serious problems in the lower frequency's. Actual dimensions, and materials used (concrete) were fare from ideal - next time we will for sure be better prepared.

Regardless the above issues, the sound were not that bad - many positive reactions confirmed that !

This time our loudspeakers (Liberty Audio Freedom) were once again in a new version - added were a second driver - and some other stuff. And yes, the sound are now even better, compared to the previous model (HiFi & Surround 2009). But we are not fully satisfied (even though, it's not bad at all) - more work will be done, improving this design even further. HiFi & Surround 2011 will be the event, when the final model will be showed - really hope that people will welcome these fantastic speakers.

At HiFi & Surround 2010 Schmidt Audio were representing the top notch DAC's from Antelope Audio - by showing the Zodiac Plus we believe, that the very highest level of digital replay are achieved. This DAC have been compared to several very expensive CD-players / DAC's - and every time, the Zodiac have made an significant difference in the right direction. If any; Antelope Audio knows how to implement digital technology - at the very highest level. Give this a listen; and you know exactly what I mean !.....

Red Wine Audio Signature 70.2 LFP-V Edition had just arrived - just a few before the show. This new (and improved) version of the mono amp's, indeed is a big jump in quality. With the LFP Edition, several things are added/improved - tube stage, LFP battery and a improved SMART circuit. The result has to be heard - compared to the previous version, there's no drawbacks - all aspects of the output are an significant upgrade. All Red Wine Audio products, now come in the much improved LFP Edition !

Thank all the visitors that took the time to drop by this weekend, and hope every single visitor had a most enjoy full and giving day.

See you all at HiFi & Surround  2011.

This weekend (11-12 September) we had a lot of people visiting our room - and most were very, very pleased by the sound represented.

The system:

CD Drive: Macbook
USB To SPDIF: SonicWeld Diverter
DAC: Red Wine Audio Isabellina (with build-in the Isabella)
Preamp: Red Wine Audio Isabella with build-in Isabellina
Amplifiers: Red Wine Audio Signature 70.2 (mono amp's)
Loudspeakers: Acoustic Force Amor Grande
Subwoofers: Velodyne model DD10
USB Cable: Locus Design Nucleus
Other Cables: Locus Design Core & Dyrholm Design Audio
Others: Isolation devices from Black Diamond Racing

The room and acoustics were OK, but unfortunately the speakers were not fully burned in - had only been playing approx 50 hours in total. Loudspeakers like these, need at least 500 hours, to fully show what they are capable doing.

Throughout the 2 day show; products from Red Wine Audio, SonicWeld, Velodyne, Locus Design, Acoustic Force, Black Diamond Racing and Dyrholm Design Audio was demonstrated.

Although there was only approx. 2x30 Watt available, there was indeed nerve and drive for every single penny - very impressive considering the speakers used (not an easy load at all) !.....

Throughout the 2 day's of exhibition all kind of music were played - even genres that  are generally very hard to reproduce. For sure it would have been much easier playing jazz or like - but a whole weekend only playing jazz would have been much to boring !......

So we ended up with a mix of music, with all genres (including jazz) equally represented - of course, to leave the most realistic impression.

Thank all the visitors that took the time to drop by this weekend, and hope every single visitor had a most enjoy full and giving day.

See you all at Arken 2012.

During this weekend (14-15 November) a lot of people visited our room, and happily most were very, very happy by the sound we had to offer - especially Sunday many claimed that this system was best at show.

The system:

Digital Source: Macbook and Theta Miles
DAC: Red Wine Audio Isabellina (with build-in the Isabella)
Preamp: Red Wine Audio Isabella with build-in Isabellina
Amplifiers: Red Wine Audio Signature 70.2 (mono amp's)
Loudspeakers: Liberty Audio model Freedom (the white one) and Folk Singer (the black one)
Subwoofers: Velodyne model DD15 and SPL 1200 Ultra
USB Cable: Locus Design Nucleus
Other Cables: Dyrholm Design Audio
Mains Conditioner: PurePower 1050 (battery powered mains regeneration)
Others: Isolation devices from Black Diamond Racing

And in the show report (after the exhibition) the words was as follows:

Although there was only approx. 2x30 Watt available, there was indeed music for every single penny !...... Not that neutral - but it played with a nerve, involvement, emancipation and dynamic, which were missing in the other rooms at the exhibition. Finally a room in which there were played music, and not too much jazz. And although the music played (AC/DC and Dizzy Mizz Lizzy) were badly mastered and the compressed kind, the setup easily fulfilled transforming you to the event itself - with all the punch, drive and life intact !......

Comment to above:

"Not that neutral" - hey, we were playing rock music - of course with the "Rock" preset on the big Velodyne subwoofer. That kind of music are not supposed to be neutral - it's all about rock "n" roll !......

Throughout the 2 day's of exhibition all kind of music were played - even genres that  are generally very hard to reproduce. For sure it would have been much easier playing jazz or like (considering that many people in Copenhagen seems to prefer that genre), but a whole weekend only playing jazz would have been much to boring !......

So we ended up with a mix of music, with all genres (including jazz) equally represented - of course, to leave the most realistic impression.

Thank all the visitors that took the time to drop by this weekend, and hope every single visitor had a most enjoy full and giving day.

Events:   2009 - Supertræf / Schmidt Audio (in own facility's)
March the 8, Schmidt Audio exhibited in own demo facilty's. Throughout this day (from 2 o'clock) we were demonstrating 2 systems - one pretty big, and one more wife friendly !......

The system:

Digital Source: Macbook and Theta Miles
DAC: Red Wine Audio Isabellina (build-in the Isabella)
Preamp: Red Wine Audio Isabella with build-in Isabellina
Amplifiers: Red Wine Audio Signature 70.2, Signature 30.2i and The Final Amp (tube amp)
Loudspeakers: Podium Sound Model 1.0, Quadral Titan Mk 3 and Zingali Overture 2
Subwoofer: DIY horn loaded (tuning frequency: 21 Hz)
USB Cable: Locus Design Nucleus
Other Cables: Dyrholm Design Audio
Mains Conditioner: PurePower 1050 (battery powered mains regeneration)
Others: Isolation devices from Black Diamond Racing

The most critical thing was, that the pretty big DIY subwoofer has just arrived (the day before), and I have not had enough time to get it adjusted perfectly - big subwoofers like this, are much more difficult to adjust than those small boxes we usually see !......

A lot of people thankfully had decided to visit Schmidt Audio this day, and all seem to be pleased by what they hear - although it was pretty difficult to have a listening in sweet spot (too many people !....)

Thank all the visitors that took the time to drop by this weekend, and hope every single visitor had a most enjoy full and giving day.

  Events:   2008 - HiFi & Surround
During this weekend (15-16 November) Schmidt Audio was to find at HiFi & Surround 2008 (Hotel Scandic - Copenhagen) - here we go.

The system:

Digital Source: Macbook and Theta Miles
DAC: Red Wine Audio Isabellina (build-in the Isabella)
Preamp: Red Wine Audio Isabella with build-in Isabellina
Amplifiers: Red Wine Audio Signature 70.2 (mono amp's)
Loudspeakers: Podium Sound Model 0.5
Cables: Dyrholm Design Audio
Others: Isolation devices from Black Diamond Racing

We arrived late afternoon Friday the 14'th, immediately start unpacking the car, and installing the system in our hotel room. A few hours later things was as good, as they could be in this locations - the room itself were very hard sounding !....... Hmmm !...... What to do ?....... We decided to buy a blanket to put on the floor - improved the acoustics slightly !....... It make no sense filling the room with all kind of acoustic treatments (like in a recording studio) - for most HiFi enthusiast's this kind of room treatment are not an option (most women still believe our living-room's have to look acceptable ?....). Most of all we simply want/like room's, we acoustically feel comfortable being in - nothing more and nothing less. Think about this: no matter the environment/acoustics, a real instrument (piano, violin, guitar etc.) sounds exactly like a real instrument - same case with a human voice.

Just to be ready, we entered our room 1 hour before opening of the exhibition. 10 o'clock the doors were opened, and people start coming in - yes; finally we are in business !

During the day a lot of people visit our room, and happily most were very happy by the sound we had to offer. Especially the speakers from Podium Sound are very special - sounds completely different from all other loudspeaker design. The reason to this are, that the Podium's radiates the sound in a (for a loudspeaker) unusual/unique way - it's non-direct sound capabilities are superior (by a wide margin) to all other loudspeakers. This fact are the main reason why people not always understand what's going on, when they hear music reproduced through loudspeakers from Podium Sound - especially if they don't know (or cant remember) what real acoustical instrument's sound like - think about it: when you sit in a concert hall, the non directional sound are a very big part of what you hear.

Throughout the 2 day's of exhibition all kind of music were played - even genres that are generally very hard reproduce. For sure it would have been much easier playing jazz or like (considering that many people in Copenhagen seems to prefer that genres) - in my part of the country it's stuff like rock and blues that rules !.....

Considering the very bright sounding room we Sunday decided to borrow (by Frequency) a subwoofer adjusting the overall tonality - I believe it helped a lot.

Thank all the visitors that took the time to drop by this weekend, and hope every single visitor had a most enjoy full and giving day.

  Events:   2008 - Arken
This weekend (12-15 September) Schmidt Audio was to find at the Swedish (Göteborg) HiFi exhibition called Arken 2008.

The system:

Digital Source: Audio Note CDT3
DAC: Audio Note DAC 2.1x (heavily modded) and Red Wine Audio Isabellina
Preamp: Red Wine Audio Isabella with build-in Isabellina
Amplifiers: Red Wine Audio Signature 70.2 (mono amp's)  and The Final Amp (tube amp)
Loudspeakers: Podium Sound Model 0.5 and Model 1.0
Cables: Homemade
Mains Conditioner: PurePower 1050 (battery powered mains regeneration)
Others: Isolation devices from Black Diamond Racing

Throughout the 3 day show; products from Podium Sound, Red Wine Audio and Audio Note was demonstrated. As a speciality I have brought with me the prototype of a new tube based amp called The Final Amp - developed and manufactured by Kjeld Pedersen.

Unfortunately my only opportunity first time at the show, was to demonstrate in a very, very big space with a lot of other exhibitors. All from audio to very potent home cinema systems was represented. As you can imagine; not ideal at all.

But I feel that most people visiting me at the Arken exhibition, still have a slight chance to discover what my ideas are all about.

In this huge space, and with a very high level of background noise, the amps from Red Wine Audio was on a very heavy job - all of its power was needed (in a normal home environment you'll never need power with this combination). Then, most of the time the Podium's were powered by The Final Amp - with this amp plugged in, there seems to be no limits at all (even under this non-ideal environment - very impressive indeed).

My guess is, that only a few of the visitors have realised what to expect this day. Both Podium Sound, Red Wine Audio and The Final Amp are realisations of new and not very common ideas. I'm very pleased that still a few in the HiFi industry have the courage to actually doing things differently - if not; HiFi will never reach new levels.

I hope that every single visitor this day had the chance to get an idea what this is all about - yes; music !

During the day I was playing a lot of different music - no "HiFi recordings" was played. We as music lovers have to face the fact, that 99,99 percent of all recorded music are normal/ordinary recordings - it has no meaning at all, optimizing your system in relation to that 0,01 percent (HiFi recordings). In my work, I focus 100 percent on the music (read: the 99,99 percent of recordings). If a HiFi system can not get the the best out of the normal/ordinary media's, maybe it's the HiFi system itself that's wrong - just a thought !

Thank all the visitors that took the time to drop by this weekend, and hope every single visitor had a most enjoyfull and giving day.

See you all at Arken 2010.

Events:   2008 - One day exhibition by Schmidt Audio (Paletten)
March the first 2008 Schmidt Audio had a one day exhibition on the local live scene (called Paletten) located in Viborg.

The system:

Digital Source: Esoteric P2S
DAC: Audio Note DAC 2.1x (heavily modded)
Preamp: The Ultimate Preamp (my own design using all the best parts from Audio Note)
Amplifiers: Red Wine Audio Signature 70.2 (mono amp's)  and Papworth M200)
Loudspeakers: Podium Sound Model 0.5 and Model 1.0
Cables: Homemade
Mains Conditioner: PurePower 1050 (battery powered mains regeneration)
Others: Isolation devices from Black Diamond Racing

Throughout the day products from Podium Sound and Red Wine Audio was demonstrated with help from equipment from my private setup.

As you see on the pictures, it's far from being a normal listening environment - approx 125 m2 and 5-6 m in height - for a HiFi-setup its not easy at all (rooms like this normally require PA equipment).

As you can imagine I was very anxious to hear if this setup could really fill this huge room with music. Powered by amps from Red Wine Audio normally listening levels was easily obtained. When powered by my private tube amps from Papworth (M200 - heavily modded) there seems to be no limits at all - very impressive indeed.

I guess that no of the visitors have realised what to expect this day - cant blame them at all. Both Podium Sound and Red Wine Audio are realisations of new and not common ideas. Someone have to try doing things differently - if not; HiFi will never reach new levels. Don't expect the old and very established company's to revolutionise anything - they feel very good by doing nothing.

I hope that every single visitor this day feel (like myself), that this was a refreshing new way of listening to reproduced music.

During the day I was playing a lot of different music - no so called "HiFi recordings" was played. In my opinion "HiFi recordings" are made to satisfy people with mediocre HiFi systems - an easy and very comfortable way to make people think they have a very good HiFi system - unfortunately the opposite is true. If a HiFi system can not get the the best out of ordinary media's, maybe it's the HiFi system that's wrong.

Maybe its the HiFi industry that stands behind these "HiFi recordings" - just a thought.

As I have mentioned earlier, part of my own private system was used this day - CD Drive: TEAC P2S - DAC: Heavily modded Audio Note DAC 3.1x - Preamp: The Ultimate Preamp (my own design using all the best Audio Note parts - Mains Conditioner: PurePower 1050 (battery powered mains regeneration) - Amplifiers: Papworth M200 (heavily modded).

This day we were playing on two different models from Podium Sound - the medium sized 0.5 and the the big 1.0 - strangely this two loudspeakers cut the visitors in two half's - one half likes the 0.5's most, and the other half like the 1.0's most (myself I like both equally well).

It's for sure that especially the 1.0's demonstrated resolution and dynamics that have very few equals.

Red Wine Audio was these day represented by the mono amp's (Signature 70.2) - an easy necessary choice (remember it's a huge room). These amplifiers did a great job this day, and I believe that every visitor was most impressed.

During the day it was possible to serve oneself with food, wine and beer - for free (of course).

Hope every single visitor have had an most enjoy full and giving day.
